Gaudeamus 2008: VocaalLAB

VocaalLAB presenteert 5 werken van verschillende componisten.

Het eerste werk is van Henry Vega. Dit stuk is geïnspireerd door een tekst met de titel: The Mathesis of Myths  van Georg Hobmeier.

De componist zegt hierover: The text, written in four continuous, unbroken sentences, and the preaching imagery that it projects was a strong influence on the music. Here the text is intoned at varying fast speeds over sustained pitches giving it the sense of uneasy stillness that I draw from these lines.

Het tweede werk is een compositie van de Belgische componiste Annelies van Parys geschreven voor en opgedragen aan mezzosopraan Els Mondelaers.

Edward Top componeerde het derde stuk, een wereldpremière, met de titel: Aliquid Stat Pro Aliquo.

De componist zegt hierover: The title refers to the formula of the medieval semiotics: something stands for something. A sign refers to an object that becomes a sign itself referring to another object becoming a sign ad infinitum. Umberto Eco has coined this process as unlimited semiosis (mainly based on Pierce’s theories). The composition aliquid stat pro aliquo is the first musical attempt of consciously using a theory I am working on called unlimited compositional semiosis, dealing with the element of association during the process of composition.

Het vierde werk is van Polina Medyulyanova, Roundelay, een stuk voor contralto, tenor en bas.

Als laatste werk een stuk van Fred Momotenko getiteld: Au Clair de la Lune, gecomponeerd als een artistieke tijdreis om het origineel uit 1860 te herontdekken.

Het VocaalLAB heet momenteel Silbersee.
