Hubbard + Mobley (1)

Bopdrummer en programmamaker Eric Ineke belicht in februari en maart de combinatie Hank Mobley (tenor) en Freddie Hubbard (trompet). Beide blazers uit de stal van Blue Note Records maakten een reeks plaatopnamen, veelal in de studio van de befaamde geluidstechnicus Rudy van Gelder. Op enkele albums staan ze samen aan het front. Goin’ Up (1960) en Blue Spirits (1966) verschijnen onder Hubbards naam, op Roll Call (1961) en The Turnaround (1965) is Mobley de leider. Wat de drummers betreft - knipoog naar de programmamaker -, het zijn niet de geringsten die time & drive gaande houden: Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, Pete LaRoca, Elvin Jones. Bopliefhebbers, Tune In!
