Raakpunten tussen Haydn en Beethoven. Als 16-jarige altviolist speelde Beethoven mee bij de Duitse première van Haydns ‘Sieben letzten Worte’. Hij begon toen al naam te maken in Bonn, vooral als een waanzinnig virtuoze pianist. Maar hij componeerde ook. We horen een pianokwartet en de vioolsonate van Mozart die hij als voorbeeld gebruikte. En nog een ontroerend lied dat Schubert op zijn beurt weer baseerde op die sonate van Mozart. Componisten die op elkaars schouders gaan staan.
